Brief: For this project I was asked to produce an digital piece of work to put into the mertz box. I had to produce the work in relation to Kurt Schwitters story the Happiness, the story is about three sisters who all wish for different things.
Solution: I decided to make three different printed posters using three different techniques to illustrate the different sisters then film them being used in a gallery space. For the first sister I made a poster using glow in the dark ink. During the day you can see the sister normally but when the lights go out you can only see her skellington. This is because the first sister asked for beauty and death isn’t scared of beauty so he kills her. For the second sister I made a set of posters getting more and more greener as the sister gets more and more jealous of others. The posters are also removable from the pad so people can take there own copy. This is because this sister asked for money and she never had enough. Finally for the last sister I created a poster which the viewer has to walk a way from to see the full image as it should be seen. This sister asked to be smart then asked to give her gift back as she knew she had requested the wrong gift she should have asked for wisdom.
MA Final work at the Ruskin Gallery
This work depicts the journey the 1968 Apollo mission took on there way back form there failed luna landing. The work is displayed with audio of the astronauts talking about how it was serialises to look back on earth and as humans we should see it.
The medium used for these pieces is cyanotype paper and fabric the prints are one offs as you can't produce the exact same colour of image twice.
Brief: To create a physical object which would be placed inside the Mertz box. I was give the Kurt Schwitters story An old fairy tale it is based on Frederick Peace who is entirely peaceful and would never hurt a flea. One day he tries to help three women in a gruesome way.
Solution: In the story Frederick is misjudged for what he did he was tiring to be a hero but it all went wrong for him and he was sentenced to death. To show the audience that in-fact Fredrick was entirely peaceful and would not hurt a flea, I produced a repetitive letter pressesed book which kept reiterating to the audience that Frederic was entirely peaceful and not evil in any way.
Images are of the night sky and are to make us think about how vast space is it is and how insignificant we are with in out universe. the work was inspired form the university of Cambridge astrological society's public events where you can look threw the telescopes.
one day I hope to make more panels and turn it in to a geodesic dome of the night sky one massive puzzle you can sit under and you can always see different night sky evert time.
The work is made of offset lithography sheets and inked up to really give that night sky gleam.
My breif was to create three book covers for Oranges Are Not The Only Fruit using three different ways. One had to be print based one had to be photography based and the final one had to be computer made. The book covers are screen prints and are neon orange to give the a readers a headache and experience the confusion the girl in the book feels over her sexuality.
Brief: We were asked to create an A2 poster with the theme that print isn’t dead.
Solution: I decided to created a screen printed poster. I feel it is one of the best ways of printmaking as you can use many different inks to produce great looking art works. I decided to go with a star theme as you can still see stars shining here on earth even after they have died. I feel that this has a similarity to printmaking, even though the skill isn’t practised as much anymore it still lives on. I used foiling for the type and glow in the dark ink for the stars connecting the constellation. You can see the stars glowing in the dark to represent printmaking forever shining on. Print shall not die.
